web dev revolution:

Creating Quality Website Traffic

In this article we're going to outline some of the activity we undertake for our clients to build good content and quality links that drive website traffic. We'll also outline a few other ideas that we have used successfully to build qualified website traffic to both our own and our clients websites.

First off, let's define what it means to have quality website traffic. Quality website traffic is traffic that has arrived on a website intentionally and with an already established interest in the content and/or the goods or services the website provides.

The first element in good search engine optimization is content. Content should above all else be relevant, interesting, unique and concise. The starting point for producing good content is to select your keywords, these are words or phrases that you believe people or business looking for products or services would type into the search engines. It's recommended to select around 8-10 keywords and focus your efforts on each for at least one specific page of your website.

A couple of tips in selecting keywords. First, put yourself in the position of your target market, if you were them what would you type in to find your type of products or services. Second, try to select keywords which will be commonly used but which don’t have too many other businesses focusing on them. The best way to test this is to run some searches and see who else amongst your competition is focusing on each keyword.

Your website should have clear and concise copy. Focus each page on one key topic, select the keyword for that key topic and use it as your page title, meta title, and inside the body copy 2-3 times. If relevant, finish the page with a call to action which features the keyword.

We've found that search engines like websites with regular content updates, so try to make your website a living thing which publishes new ideas and updates as often as possible. The best way to do that is to frequently add to your blog where you can post your latest company news, views, product or service launches, client wins, and much more. If you want more control over your website content, easy to use Content Management Systems like WordPress, make updating and managing website content a brease.

There are several techniques we regularly use to build links for both our own and our clients websites.

You can submit your website to numerous free directories, try to focus on ones that have a good Google Page Ranking and are specific to your industry. Also take at least one paid listing with a high page ranking directory for example, google.com or bing.com. You should also submit your website to the appropriate open directories and webmasters tools.

Online press releases are another excellent means of obtaining one way links to your website. Make sure that you have a real story, something that will interest your target market so that online publishers will want to use your press release and people will want to read it. The story could be a new service or product, new data or information, a new idea you have, etc.

Of course the best way to build links to your website is to have great content that people want to link to, spread through social media and related blogs.

Businesses of all types can notice increased traffic through the use of these techniques. Learn more about how and can help your business build a community.
